LGPS Employer Discretions Policy

The Local Government Pension Scheme is the pension scheme that applies to support staff employed by NEAT (teachers are members of the Teachers' Pension Scheme).  Depending on the school involves, staff contribute to either the Tyne and Wear Pension Fund, which is administered by South Tyneside Metropolitan Borough Council or the Teesside Pension Fund, which is administered by Middlesbrough Council.
Each employing authority is required to have a policy that sets out how it will make decisions where it has discretion to do so under the pension regulations.  This includes issues such as how long we give new employees to transfer in service from other pension schemes and how we deal with requests for flexible retirement.  We review this policy each year.
