School-based counselling across NEAT

We're delighted to celebrate Rachael Nevin-Lewis's first half-term as School Counsellor with NEAT Academy Trust.

This new post benefits pupils who need support with emotional wellbeing, as we know that children are not ready to learn until they feel safe and happy.

Rachael recently linked up with Tyne and Wear Citizens Service to support their campaign for school-based counselling in North East schools.
Rachael said, "It’s so refreshing to be part of such a forward thinking organisation that places such importance on welfare and recognises how vital preventative, early intervention is.  This half-term has been a great opportunity to establish a base in each school and get to know pupils and staff."

Rachael is trained as a Person centred and Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counsellor.  Prior to her career as a Counsellor she was in education where she developed her skillset across both mainstream Primary Schools and specialist educational provisions. For 3 years Rachael worked as an SEN Support teacher in an ESMH (Emotional, Social, and Mental Health) provision in Newcastle where she realised her passion in supporting children with their metal wellbeing. She then studied for a further 3 years at The Northern Guild for her Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling with a child and adolescent specialism. Rachael is an active member of the British Association of Counselling Psychotherapists and is currently working towards her accreditation.
