Tyneview Primary School is celebrating an excellent Ofsted inspection outcome following its inspection in January 2026, recognising the quality of education, leadership and care provided across the school.

The report confirms high standards in teaching and learning. Pupils achieve strongly across reading, writing and mathematics, with outcomes above national averages over time. This includes disadvantaged pupils, who achieve well and make strong progress from their starting points.

This reflects a clear focus on curriculum design and delivery. Leaders have built a curriculum that is carefully sequenced, knowledge-rich and consistent across subjects. Teaching supports pupils in securing and retaining key knowledge, revisiting learning, and applying it with confidence.

For pupils, this means leaving Tyneview well prepared for secondary school. They develop strong academic foundations, alongside confidence, resilience and a positive attitude to learning.

For families, it provides confidence that their child is part of a school where expectations are high, support is strong, and every child is known and valued. Safeguarding is effective, with a culture where pupils feel safe and supported.

Inclusion remains a key strength. Leaders identify needs early and act quickly to remove barriers. This ensures all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, have access to the full curriculum and achieve well.

The report also highlights the school’s approach to personal development. Pupils benefit from a wide range of experiences that build confidence, raise aspirations and develop a strong sense of belonging. Structured approaches, such as coaching circles, support pupils in reflecting, communicating, and managing their wellbeing.

The outcome of the report also reflects the work of Newcastle Research School, where leaders use the resource effectively, as well as leaders providing delivery and support for educational establishments at a National level.

This work reflects the wider NEAT Academy Trust strategic focus on improving outcomes, raising aspirations and building cultural capital for all pupils. It also reflects the Trust’s commitment to evidence-informed practice, professional development and collaboration across schools.

Vashti Sergison, Headteacher at Tyneview Primary School, said:

“This report reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff team, who show up every day with a clear focus on getting the best outcomes for our pupils. We are proud of the progress our children make, both academically and personally.

Our approach is simple. We set high expectations, we know our pupils well, and we provide the support they need to succeed. This report recognises that consistency in teaching and the strength of our curriculum are making a difference.

We will continue to build on this, with a focus on attendance and ensuring every pupil benefits fully from what we offer.”

Kath Davison, Chair of the Board of Governors, said:

“This is indeed a fantastic report which well reflects the daily efforts and achievements of all staff, parents, governors and wider community. I remain proud to be associated with Tyneview through my governor role and know together we will continue to build upon this success and strive towards further improvements in the areas highlighted for development.”

Steve Haigh, Chief Executive Officer of NEAT Academy Trust, said:

“This is an excellent report for Tyneview and one we are proud of across the Trust. It reflects the impact of clear leadership, strong teaching and a relentless focus on pupils.

At NEAT, we are committed to ensuring every child achieves and thrives. Tyneview is an example of this in practice. The school’s work on curriculum, inclusion and personal development aligns closely with our Trust priorities and shows what can be achieved through a shared approach.

We are proud of the staff at Tyneview and the transformational impact they have on our children and families. This outcome also reflects the strength of collaboration across the Trust, where schools work together to improve practice and outcomes for all.”

The report highlights several areas of strong practice that align with Trust priorities:

  • High-quality curriculum design that builds knowledge over time
    • Consistent teaching that secures understanding and progress
    • Strong inclusion, removing barriers for vulnerable pupils
    • A clear focus on personal development and wellbeing
    • Leadership that uses evidence to drive improvement

These areas directly support the Trust’s strategic aim to improve outcomes and life chances for all pupils, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The report identifies attendance as an area for continued focus, particularly persistent absence. Leaders are already working closely with families to address barriers and improve attendance so that all pupils can fully benefit from the education provided.

The school will continue to strengthen its curriculum, teaching and wider provision as part of its ongoing improvement journey.
