At NEAT, we are passionate about creating opportunities for every young person to thrive, particularly during crucial transition periods in their education. Transitions – whether moving into secondary school or preparing to leave it – can be challenging, and we are proud to share how our partnership with the Newcastle United Foundation (NUF) is making a real difference.

On Saturday 18th January, a fantastic example of this collaborative work was highlighted on BBC Match of the Day, with a special feature on Benfield School’s partnership with NUF. The piece spotlighted England footballer Lloyd Kelly’s inspiring visit to the school, as part of a groundbreaking transition programme funded by the Newcastle United Foundation and the Premier League.

This new transition programme is designed to support young people both as they enter and exit secondary education. By addressing the challenges students face during these pivotal moments, the initiative equips them with skills and confidence to navigate the next stage of their educational journey successfully. The programme’s delivery at Benfield School exemplifies the power of partnership in nurturing and empowering learners.

The BBC feature also included interviews with key figures such as Benfield School’s Headteacher, Anthony Martin, alongside Connor Campbell and Andy Foster from the Newcastle United Foundation. These voices emphasised the shared commitment to fostering resilience, aspiration and belonging among our learners, perfectly aligning with NEAT’s core purpose and values.

Our collaboration with the Newcastle United Foundation reflects our shared aspiration to nurture learners and transform their life chances. By blending education and sport, the programme not only supports academic development but also nurtures personal growth, teamwork, and self-belief – traits essential for success in school and beyond.

NEAT’s Commitment to Partnership

As a trust, NEAT’s values guide everything we do. Working collaboratively with organisations like the Newcastle United Foundation demonstrates the power of inclusive partnerships. Together, we are shaping environments where young people feel valued, supported and inspired to achieve their dreams.

The Lloyd Kelly visit was not just a celebration of football; it was a testament to the transformative impact of collective efforts to uplift our learners. We are immensely grateful to the Newcastle United Foundation and the Premier League for investing in the future of our students and recognising the importance of transition support.

This collaboration is one of many examples of how NEAT is working to nurture, educate, achieve, and transform. By fostering innovative partnerships, we are providing the tools our learners need to succeed and flourish in an ever-changing world.
