Proposal

NEAT Academy Trust intends to remove all non-statutory admissions waiting lists, incorporate all NEAT Primary schools into the same policy, and include all in the oversubscription criteria for Benfield School.

Timescale to implement changes: Publication of the 2027/28 Admission Policy.

The context of the proposal is that schools are required to maintain a waiting list for normal point of entry (Reception/Year 7) until 31 December of the year of entry. In removing all other waiting lists, the schools will consider each application at the time a place becomes available ensuring that consideration is given to those actively seeking a place according to the published oversubscription criteria. Through this approach, the schools can more quickly provide a response to applications, giving greater clarity to families to seek and confirm alternative schooling arrangements without the ambiguity of remaining on a non-statutory waiting list if there is not an available place at the time of application.

The incorporation of St Peter’s Church of England School and Whitehouse Primary School into the NEAT Primary Admissions Policy ensures a universal approach to Primary Admissions across NEAT Academy Trust, and embeds the schools within the Trust.

Additionally, two other primary schools in NEAT Academy Trust (St Peter’s Church of England School, and Whitehouse Primary School) are added to the oversubscription criteria for Benfield School to provide a universal offer to the Trust’s Primary pupils.

A draft version of the updated 2026/27 Admissions Policies which includes the arrangements and the proposals can each be viewed here:

To help us respond to your request you should clearly describe the information you are requesting and the time periods for which you are seeking the information. Requests will be acknowledged within 5 working days.

Full details of how we record and assess requests and the timescales for providing a response are contained in the Freedom of Information Policy.
